Michigan Reading Association 2010

Posted on 23 April 2010

So this year’s MRA conference was a success. Boy, am I tired. I arrived early on Saturday to drop off inventory to the booksellers, and then prepared for my first session on “Visual Literacy: Understanding Comics” to discover the lamp on my projector had burned out! Oh no…

This is something that I knew would eventually happen – one of those things that you think, “I’ll worry about that sometime in the future”. The problem with these lamps is replacements are VERY expensive, and having a spare on hand does not really solve the problem if the bulb burns out during a presentation, as they take about 40 minutes to take the unit apart. So thankfully, a loaner projector was provided thanks to the wonderful organizers of theMRA and everything was fine! My session was full, and my next session was even more full on “Creativity in Education”.

Then Sunday I hosted a table at the MI author and illustrator breakfast, presented the Young Author entertainment, and then was honored at the Made in Michigan reception. Then the night was finished with performing a MoTown parody song as part of Barry Lane‘s musical cabaret!

Busy weekend making new friends and reconnecting with old ones! I love Michigan Reading Association!
