I will be speaking at the SCBWI-MI annual Fall conference this weekend on Mackinac Island, MI. And I need your help! I am speaking on the topic of authors and illustrators self-promoting, and I want to demonstrate an exercise in how Twitter is a great resource for building fan relationships. On Saturday, September 24, I will be calling on my Twitter fans and friends with a specific question that you can hashtag back with #hipphop. I’ll be showing the feed live from my session, and the “secret question” will pertain to why Twitter is awesome for building relationships. I will be giving three lucky random participants an original piece of artwork for helping me demonstrate! Hope to see you Saturday!
Monroe ISD Young Author’s Day was a HUGE Hit!

Wow! Thank you, thank, you, THANK YOU, Monroe County ISD for an AWESOME Young Author’s Day. Not only did I receive a completely warm welcome, but I sold over 200 books in just the first session! After selling out, the next group was SOOO patient and understandng, that I offered a complementary original custom color sketch for anyone that placed a rain check order! Thank you so much students and families of Monroe County!
Michigan Reading Association Conference 2011

I’ll be a Featured Speaker at the Michigan Reading Association annual conference this weekend. Teachers can see my session on the Importance of Creativity in Education as well as my lecture on Using Comics in the Classroom. I’ll also be at the Author’s Breakfast with special presents for my table attendees.
